Clients I work with often appear capable, responsible, and successful on the outside, while internally feeling anxious, self-critical, or constantly “on.” High-functioning anxiety and perfectionism can show up as persistent overthinking, difficulty resting, fear of making mistakes, and an ongoing sense of pressure to perform—regardless of how much is accomplished.

For many adults, these patterns developed as adaptive responses to early stress or trauma. Staying alert, overachieving, or holding oneself to high standards may have once provided a sense of safety or control. Over time, however, these same strategies can lead to chronic stress, burnout, emotional exhaustion, and a growing sense of disconnection from oneself.

I’m Nalini Channapatna Prasanna, a licensed therapist who provides trauma-informed care to help adults understand these patterns with compassion, regulate their nervous system, and develop more sustainable ways of coping—without losing their drive, competence, or sense of identity.
